About Jim
I became a financial advisor and portfolio manager by way of a long and successful career in the non-profit and public sectors. In my early professional career, I honed my finance and planning skills, but it was an opportunity to be responsible for planning large-scale capital projects for New York City and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that defined my career trajectory. The pinnacle work was the Boston Harbor Clean-up Project that was a $6 billion dollar infrastructure project that brought Massachusetts into compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act.
As that project came to fruition, I chose to refocus my finance and planning skills to help individual families, non-profits and small businesses. I began my new career at a national broker-dealer. Over a period of three years, I built a solid clientele and quickly identified the independent business model as the ideal way to deliver quality advice and superior service. In 2011, I broke away from the broker-dealer model and started an independent firm, Compass Rose Private Investment Management. This entailed starting my own small business, one where I could fully embrace the fiduciary standard for clients and be free to deliver the comprehensive financial services that clients desired. The move to independence was the best decision I have ever made in my career. Client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, as is evidenced by a highly loyal client base.
My passion for portfolio management is unquestioned. If I can produce consistently productive results for clients, they find that they can do much, much more in life. This productivity extends beyond making sure that their money lasts for the rest of their lives; it enhances their lifestyles and increases their generosity. It is the ultimate satisfaction to see clients reach goals that they thought were out of reach.
In 2021 our firm merged with Beck Bode to ensure the succession of our practice. I remain involved day-to-day in portfolio management and will do so for years to come. Beck Bode was a terrific choice to continue the legacy of fee-only financial planning, the philosophy of active portfolio management, and a superior client service model. I trust Ben Beck and Jim Bode to lead the firm well. Our values align, and I am confident that clients will be in good hands.
I live in Rye, NH with my wife Roxanne and our dogs, Maggie the Golden Retriever and Seamus the Irish Setter. We have two adult children and five grandchildren. I am an active uncle and grandfather, off-the-charts sports fan, a competitive golfer and newly certified scuba diver.
